The AGES3 consortium, driven by the Community of Madrid within the Biomedicina 2022 programme, has enabled the participation of Madrid hospitals in the international FEP-CAUSAL initiative, a research network focused on the study of First Episode Psychosis (FEP) in different countries.
Through this type of collaboration, several hospitals in the region join multicenter studies that seek to identify the causes of the disease. Specifically, the goal of this research is to understand how genetic predisposition and environmental factors (such as stress or substance use) combine in the development of psychotic disorders.
FEP-CAUSAL works with clinical and genetic data from patients in early stages, which allows advanced methods to be applied to distinguish which factors truly influence the onset of the disease. This approach is key to improving both early detection and the design of treatments better tailored to each patient.
The participation of Madrid hospitals in this type of international network reinforces the role of the Community of Madrid in mental health research and its commitment to more precise medicine.
